Victoria Street by Architect Thomas Hamilton 1829-1834 to improve access to the city and viewed from Victoria Terrace (upper walkway) a major inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series and leading down to Grassmarket historic open square where we found Rob, Jen and the boys in a cafe and had to wrap it up to scurry up the Vennel Steps and the Patrick Gedde Steps as a vertical to make our appointment for Edinburgh Castle at 11:30am, October 11.

The top of Grassmarket at junction of Colgate and Candlemaker Row, turning right at the tower leads to the Vennel 72 steps and also to the Castle Wynd Steps, 187 of them, which leads direct from Grassmarket all the way up to the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, that’s a 13 floor equivalent, and yes, we climbed them all to be on time!
